Suggesting a Daily Deviation

I'm the 3-Dimensional Art and Stereoscopy CV!

A few things before you start suggesting:

:bulletgreen: I can only feature deviations in the Digital Art > 3-Dimensional Art and Digital Art > Stereoscopy sections, however, the Stereoscopy gallery is not yet populated, so I'm not taking suggestions for it just yet. If it's not in one of these galleries and you would like to suggest it, check FAQ 18 and pick the volunteer or staff member representing the gallery your suggestion belongs to.

:bulletgreen: You absolutely may nominate your own work, there's more stuff in the 3D section alone than I can ever hope to see, and you shouldn't feel shy or embarrassed about nominating your own work. I'm happy to tell you whether or not your work will be featured and to give an explanation and some critique, but make sure to let me know you'd like that. I always appreciate feedback on my own work and know most of you probably do as well. Don't be discouraged if it's declined, every step is a learning process on the road to improvement. :)

:bulletgreen: Before you submit something, think "Would seven million other people like this as much as I do?". Daily Deviations are seen by a lot of people, and we try to feature the best of the best. If your suggestion isn't featured, please don't be upset, we get a lot of suggestions :handshake:

:bulletgreen: Check to make sure the deviant (or you if it's your own work) hasn't received a feature within the last 6 months. It's a rule ALL volunteers have to follow that we can't feature a deviant more than once in a 6 month period. This just makes it a bit fairer for everyone to get their work noticed.  :eager:

Note: This has recently changed, it used to be 3 months, so please make sure you're familiar with the new rules.

How to suggest

Just hit the "Note" button on my profile page and add the subject: DD Suggestion include the thumb code (or URL) along with the reason why you or the person you are nominating deserves a Daily Deviation.

You can also use the Greasemonkey Script SuggestDD v0.6 Update made by `Solitude12 to suggest DDs.

Feel free to ask for feedback on your own work if you'd like it.

You noted that you only deal with the Stereoscopy section, but FAQ 18 says you handle both Stereoscopy and general 3-D Art.

Awesome 3D Links

Hi Guys! This is a list of some really fantastic 3D Resources and tutorials that have made significant improvements to my use and understanding of 3D. I'm now compiling them here for you to look at! I'll update this list as I go. Some are Maya-specific (That's what I use), some aren't application specific, and some are for other apps but still transferrable to all.

Modelling:
Ryan Kittleson's fantastic modelling tutes
Cheap clouds without Fluids

Texturing/Lighting
Making Sense of VRay
Introduction to bump, normal and displacement textures

Miscelaneous:
10 reasons why your renders suck
Light - A detailed tutorial
Big Guide to Drawing the Body
BlackRougeDream's Useful Collection
:iconjouste:'s Creative Commons Concepts
[link]
[link]

Quick tips:
- Blur your 3D ouptut by .5pixels to make a cg image softer and look like a photograph!
- Add a ring of ambience to your eye irises to make your eyes really shine and pop!

Awesome lighting advice from people who know more than I do:
Dark scenes
Night time and darkness are traditionally created by using lots of contrasting light
Never make things dark, that just makes them hard to see
Blue fill with yellow key gives impression of darkness and indoor light
Fill isn't always your enemy
Use other films, old ones, for reference.

To Do List

- Work on 3D Demo Reel
- Finish my art feature (it's all hush hush)
- Start Collaborations

3D Gallery Bulletin - May

Wed May 9, 2012, 4:16 AM
:iconcymae:

Another Marvelous Month!

Welcome to May. This month we have a few announcements, features and an extension on last month's contest!

During last month, I posted an article about Copyright and Crediting for anyone that's interested. There are some points to consider, and discussion is welcome.

I'd also like to let everyone know about goings on for the next two months.
From June 6 to July 12, I will be visiting relatives in Europe. This means I won't have my computer handy, so I'll be doing less DeviantArt stuff than usual.

I'll still be doing Daily Deviations and answering my notes and emails every few days if you need to get to me. The July gallery bulleting might be a bit late as a result however.

If you live anywhere near Amsterdam though, exciting news!

We are organising a DevMeet in Amsterdam on the 1st of July! So, if you want to meet ^Cymae, Other members of the Community Relations team, or your fellow European Deviants, come along! I'll be there for the afternoon and would love to meet any of you who can make it!

We've also got a pile of swag to give away, and you all know I'm biased towards my lovely 3Ders :D

Hope to see some of you there!

April's Daily Deviation Roundup

You can check out last month's Daily Deviations here.

Last month saw some great work, congratulations to everyone who was featured.

Monthly Deviant Feature: Promising Artist

Each month in this bulletin, a promising and upcoming artist will be featured. This is an artist who shows a lot of potential and vast improvement is evident through their gallery. You are welcome to note me suggestions for next month's candidate just as you would note me a Daily Deviation suggestion.

This month, our featured deviant is *OhSnapItsKevin

*OhSnapItsKevin has some excellent sculpts and great concepts. I look forward to seeing more of his work, he's improving with every piece.

Monthly Deviant Feature: Excellence in 3D

Each month in this bulletin, an outstanding 3D artist will be featured. This is an artist who has many high quality works of art in his gallery, and we take the opportunity to look at their work as a whole. Again, you are welcome to note me suggestions for next month's candidate just as you would note me a Daily Deviation suggestion.

This month, our featured deviant is *ArthurBlue
Terrain generation and manipulation is a very difficult aspect of 3D, a lot is outside your control and you have to manipulate the conditions as well as possible to get the outcome you want. *ArthurBlue does an amazing job at creating stunning imagery and fantastic scenery. Although he himself doesn't consider his work 'art', I think the rest of us might disagree.
